Michael & Chelsea

When I arrived in Barcelona, it was a stormy day with heavy rain greeting me as I carried my bag and suitcase of gear on buses and through the muggy metro stations. This was my first destination wedding as a photographer, and what a perk of the job it is to get to see somewhere new!

After settling into my B&B, I wandered down to the venue to meet the couple for the first time and plan out the next day with them.

As soon as I walked up the dramatic driveway of Can Casadella, I knew this was going to be a very special wedding. I’d never been to such a house before. Its sweeping grounds included a woodland, pathways, swimming pool, and various garden spots, including a perfect spot for pre-wedding breakfast that was dappled with tree shadows.

Chelsea, the bride, welcomed me warmly and took me on a tour of the venue. While we walked around, she admitted that they were still deciding where to have the ceremony. Even against the moody skies as the backdrop, the couple seemed relaxed and in the moment. After waiting a couple of years for this moment to bring their favorite people from their home in America to a special place for them both, Barcelona, they were finally here. It appeared to me that they were rolling with whatever challenge came up with grace and joy in the fact it was happening at last.

Thankfully, the storm had passed for the wedding day itself, and we had beautiful blue skies and sunshine. The whole day seemed to be woven with meaning and little nods to the past and future. It was an expression of the couple's authenticity and slightly nomadic lifestyle.

It was truly a joy to witness and capture Chelsea and Michael’s wedding day unfold. It dawned on me that this is exactly why I love photography and love photographing alternative and intimate weddings. Being around real people, sharing the most magical day that gets to bring together all the special people in their lives. It's an honor to capture the elements that made the day so special and even the little slices of beauty that get missed.

Weddings are a huge source of real inspiration and this one was pure magic to get to photograph. I hope you enjoy a glimpse of their day below.
